It is the intent of the OHIO SCOTTISH ARTS SCHOOL to provide comprehensive instruction in traditional arts of Highland dancing, fiddling, harping, piping and drumming, by nationally and internationally recognized teachers. At the end of the week, the students will have increased their knowledge of theory, improved their basic skills and technique, and been exposed to new material.
Students: Participants must be 10 years of age or older by the day prior to the first day of OSAS (although we suggest students be 12 years of age for the Harp and Fiddle classes). The age requirement is in place to ensure that each student will be able to handle being away from home and get the most out of the classes. Adult students are encouraged to enroll. Students should have some knowledge of their particular art, but we encourage enrollment by people of all skill levels. Younger students are well supervised by a staff of counselors.
Classes and Activities: Classes begin on Sunday morning and are held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. In the evenings students can enjoy various supervised athletic and social activities as time permits. An informal variety show is held on the last night, and all are encouraged to participate.
Facilities
Classrooms and Studios: These facilities are well suited for the students’ needs. They are located within walking distance of the dorms and dining hall.
Dorms and Dining: Double dorm rooms are included in the tuition but for an extra fee adults can request a single room as space permits. Meals are served in the college dining hall. Three meals will be served on our full class days, with breakfast only on the last day. Water breaks are provided each morning and afternoon during the class day.
